We are excited to announce that we have two fantastic members-only workshops scheduled for June!

First workshop of the month, back after high demand and a long waitlist: RFID/NFC hacking workshop at DNV Cyber! The workshop will take place on Tuesday, June 2nd, 2026.

The workshop teaches the basics of NFC/RFID systems and how they work on a technical level, while keeping security in mind. Participants will get to know and learn concepts such as ISO/IEC 14443A communication, memory models, and common weaknesses regarding access control systems. In the end participants can get hands-on learning experience through multiple challenges related to the concepts covered during the workshop.

The workshop is led by Santtu Sievänen, who is working as a Security Specialist at DNV Cyber. Santtu has a strong interest in NFC/RFID technology and even has 4 RFID microchip implants! Join Santtu to learn a technical foundation in NFC/RFID security.

For this workshop you will not need any of your own equipment, but if you have a Flipper Zero or Proxmark and device, feel free to bring those with you.

📅 When: Tuesday, June 2nd
🕒 Time: 17.30 - 20.30 (doors open at 17.00)
📍 Where: DNV, Keilaranta 15 B, 02150 Espoo.

Please arrive on time so the workshop can start on schedule.

You can reserve your spot here: https://events.helsec.fi/helse....
Tickets will be available through the link on Friday, May 15th, at 13.00.

The workshop was extremely popular last time and seats are limited, so register quickly to secure your spot! And please remember that this is a members-only event, so do not share the link with non-members. Also, as always, if you get a ticket but your plans change, remember to cancel it so someone else can grab the spot.

We look forward to seeing you there for an introduction to RFID/NFC hacking!

Introduction to Ghidra and Firmware reverse engineering

For the second workshop of the month, we are excited to invite you to our Ghidra and Firmware reverse engineering workshop on Saturday, June 13th!
This hands-on workshop will be led by Vesa-Pekka Palmu - a software developer and a passionate hobbyist hardware hacker and CTF challenge creator, who will be once again your instructor.

The workshop is mainly aimed at beginners, but will also contain practical training for firmware projects if you already have some Ghidra experience.

Bring a laptop with a up-to-date install of Ghidra (12.0.4 currently). Some familiarity on reading C-like code is expected. For the most part we will be using the decompilers C-like output.

Outline of the workshop:
1. Short introduction to the target and some general advice
2. Hands on project setup with Ghidra
3. Hands on work with the binary; some guiding questions and hints will be provided, guidance available
4. Wrap up with the general flow, some additional resources, few words about AI assisted reverse engineering.

📅 When: Saturday, June 13th, 2026
🕒 Time: 12:00-20:00 (with a lunch break included)
📍 Where: Karjalankatu 2 (6th floor), Helsinki.

Please arrive on time so we can start the workshop on schedule.

You can reserve your spot here: https://events.helsec.fi/helse....
Tickets will be available through the link next Monday, May 18th, at 13:00.

Seats are very limited, so please register quickly to secure your spot! And remember that this one is also a members-only event. Do not share the link with non-members. Also, as always, if you get a ticket but your plans change, remember to cancel it so someone else can grab the spot.

Before you arrive to this workshop:
In this workshop we will be using a firmware from a 6809 CPU based device. For a good introduction on how a CPU and a 6809 works, it is recommended to read chapters 1 and 2 from here: https://colorcomputerarchive.c...(Rodney%20Zaks%20and%20William%20Labiak)%20(alt).pdf. Reading at least pages 103 - 120 of the chapter 4 is also highly recommended.
A condensed list of machine instructions for 6809 is available here: https://www.chibiakumas.com/68...

We want to give a special thanks to workshop hosts Santtu and Vesa-Pekka for offering to share their knowledge with the HelSec community again! ❤️ See you at the workshops!
